Prairie Fire Sector is a climbing area on Bureau of Land Management land within the Caliente Field Office in Nevada. It sits among a cluster of named climbing sectors, with Moon Sector, 4) Cave Sector and 5) Sun Kissed Sector each about 0.1 mile away, so it makes an easy addition to a day spent exploring the surrounding crags. The routes here are all sport climbs, and they grade from about 5.12a to 5.13a. Prairie Fire, the namesake route, is a 5.12b, and Extortion Company is the hardest at 5.13a. The area's first ascents were made by climbers such as Zack Nay and Clayton Leuba. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April highs around 76°F and October highs around 78°F, while July highs average about 101°F. That station sits roughly 500 feet lower than the sector, so temperatures on the rock may run cooler.
