Barley Creek is a hard hike in the Austin-Tonopah Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada. It is a 16.9-mile out-and-back route with a total elevation gain of 3,023 feet, climbing from a low of about 7,678 feet to a high of about 9,954 feet. The trail is on natural surface, and it is open to horses. Bikes are not allowed. The trail is open seasonally, from June 15 to October 30. Plan on a full day, and consider going early in the season when it is cooler. The climb is steep, so the hike is best suited to riders and hikers who are prepared for a long, high route. Nearby hikes include Cottonwood Creek 2, about 2 miles away, and Tipover, about 3 miles away. Willow Creek 3 and Studhorse are each within about 3 miles.
