Point of Rocks is a climbing area in Stillwater State Forest in Montana, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. It sits among a cluster of other outdoor spots, with the Old Fort Steele Trail about a mile away and the Mouse House climbing area roughly 1.7 miles off. The area offers a mix of sport and trad routes, with 15 in total. The grades run from 5.6 up to 5.12c, so climbers of different abilities will find something to work on. Sport climbers can try Groin Irritation at 5.10a or Bullet With Butterfly Wings at 5.12c, while trad climbers have Joe Dirt at 5.8+. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Olney show July and August highs around 80°F with lows in the low 40s, and the station sits about 700 feet lower than the climbing area, so temperatures at the rocks run a little cooler. Stillwater Lake Campground is about 4.6 miles away, and the Stillwater River offers canoeing about 2.1 miles off. Smokey Lake and Sunday Falls are both within about 2 miles.
