Upper Log Gulch Trail is a short, easy hike on Bureau of Land Management land in the Butte Field Office, about 0.9 miles long and roughly 350 feet of elevation gain one way. It is an out-and-back route that starts and ends at the same point, with the low point at about 3,659 feet and the high at about 4,026 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Holter Dam weather station show July and August highs around 85°F with lows near 50°F, while winter highs stay in the upper 30s. Lower Log Gulch Trail lies just 0.1 mile away, and Log Gulch Campground is about 0.2 mile off. Juniper Bay Trail is roughly 0.9 mile away, and Holter Lake Campground is about 3.2 miles away.
