Tyler Creek is a hard hike in the Missoula Ranger District of Lolo National Forest in western Montana. The route is an out-and-back that climbs from about 3,900 feet to roughly 6,300 feet, with a total elevation gain of 2,414 feet over a distance of about 14.8 miles. The trail is on natural surface, and the Forest Service allows both horses and bikes. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Phillipsburg, which sits about 1,000 feet lower than the trail's high point, show July and August highs around 81°F with lows in the low 40s. Winter is cold, with January highs near 36°F and lows around 15°F. The trail is open year-round, and the surrounding area offers more to explore. The Eightmile/Harvey Trail is about 6 miles away, the Old Bonita Trail about 8 miles, and the Black Pine Ridge Trail about 9 miles. Climbers can head to Mulkey Gulch, roughly 9 miles off.
