Gird Creek is a hard hike of about 6.9 miles in the Darby Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest in western Montana, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back, rising from a low point of about 6,693 feet to a high of about 7,722 feet, with an elevation gain of roughly 480 feet one way. The trail is natural-surfaced, and the climb is the most telling factor in its difficulty. Plan for a day that starts and ends at the same point, with the bulk of the ascent and descent on the same stretch of trail. Gird Point campground sits about 1.4 miles away, and the Skalkaho-Gird hike is about 2.8 miles off. Black Bear Campground and Black Bear Point are both about 3.7 miles away.
