Flat Rock Creek is a hard hike in the Stevensville Ranger District of Montana's Bitterroot National Forest. The route starts at the Palisade Mountain NRT trailhead and runs about 10 miles out and back, with a one-way climb of roughly 2,600 feet from a low point near 5,000 feet to a high point of about 8,000 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced and is managed by the Forest Service. Plan for a full day, and expect the most effort on the route's steeper stretches as you work up to the summit. Gold Creek Campground sits about 1.4 miles away, and Cutoff Gulch and Burnt Fork are both within a mile. Bitterroot Big Springs is about 1.7 miles off.
