Elk Pass is a hard hike in Montana's Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, within the Rocky Mountain Ranger District. The route is an out-and-back that climbs from about 5,120 feet to 6,896 feet, a gain of roughly 2,280 feet over a round trip of about 13.3 miles. The trailhead is at Elk Creek TH, and the Forest Service manages the surrounding land. Horses are allowed, and the trail is not accessible. The Cataract Falls Tie is just half a mile away, and Steamboat Lookout is about 2.3 miles off. Falls Creek Campground and Double Falls Campground, both within about 8 miles, offer places to camp.
