Elk Basin is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Tally Lake Ranger District of Montana's Flathead National Forest, about 5.7 miles long with a one-way elevation gain of 618 feet. The trail starts at the Elk Basin Trailhead, and the route rises from a low point of about 4,854 feet to a high of about 5,403 feet. The trail is open from June 1 through October 31, and the Forest Service manages the land. The trail is natural-surfaced, and both horses and bikes are allowed. Nearby, Dunsire Pass lies about 3 miles away, and Elk Mountain and Bowen Lake are each roughly 3.7 miles off. For an overnight stay, Sylvia Lake Campground is about 7.4 miles away.
