Elephanthead is a moderate out-and-back hike of about 10 miles in the Yellowstone Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest in Montana. The trail runs on natural surface and is managed by the Forest Service, with the low point at about 5,732 feet and the high at roughly 9,063 feet. The climb is about 5,700 feet one way. Horses are allowed on the trail, and bikes are not. Because of the long route and the steep grade, plan on a full day. Rough Draw lies just 0.1 mile away, and Blacktail Lake and Canyon Creek are each about 3.3 miles off. West Boulder Campground is about 5.7 miles from the trail.
