Chippy Creek is a hard hike in Montana's Forest Service lands, about 9 miles from the town of Bend. The route is an out-and-back of roughly 14.8 miles, with a total elevation gain of about 2,535 feet. It starts at a low point of about 3,571 feet and climbs to a high point of about 6,105 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at a similar elevation show July and August highs around 70°F with only about six wet days a month, while winter highs stay near 28°F. The trail is on natural surface and allows both horses and bikes. It is open year-round. Nearby, Bear Creek (D5) is about 1.5 miles away and Cook Mountain about 3.6 miles. The Thompson River offers canoeing about 3.9 miles off, and Bend Guard Station campground sits about 8.2 miles away.
