Capitol Mtn. is a moderate out-and-back hike of about 10.7 miles on natural trail surface in the Great Bear Wilderness, part of the Spotted Bear Ranger District of Montana's Flathead National Forest. The route rises from a low point of about 5,025 feet to a high of 7,870 feet, a one-way climb of 2,846 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is accessible to horses but not to bikes. It is not an accessible trail. The trip is open year-round, and the surrounding wilderness makes it a destination for a full day on foot. Nearby, Roaring-Argosy lies about 2 miles away, and Dolly Varden-Pentagon and Porter Creek are each about 3.3 miles off. Silvertip Cabin, roughly 7 miles away, offers a place to stay.
