The trail rises from a low point of 5,409 feet to a high of 6,872 feet, with a total elevation gain of 660 feet. It is a hard route, and the trail surface is natural, so plan on a day of steady effort on foot or horseback. Horses are allowed, and the trail is not accessible. Bikes are not permitted. The Forest Service lists the route as open year-round, so it works for a visit in any season. The climb is a single push to the high point and back, and the route is close to several other hikes. East Fork Sheep Creek lies just 0.6 miles away, and Potshot Creek-Seedling Creek is about 2.5 miles off. Climbers can head to Blackleaf Canyon, roughly 9 miles away.
