Buffalo Divide is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Yellowstone Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest in Montana, about 6.6 miles from the nearest town. The trail is managed by the Forest Service and runs on natural surface, and it is open to horses. Bikes are not allowed. The route climbs from about 7,983 feet to about 9,668 feet, with a total gain of roughly 1,600 feet. That makes it a steady, moderate day for anyone heading up from the lower end. Several other hikes sit within a couple of miles, including Sheep Creek, Lower Sheep Creek and Independence. For an overnight stay, Hicks Park campground is about 6.6 miles away.
