Blacktail Loop is a 14.8-mile out-and-back hike in the Cabinet Ranger District of Montana's Kootenai National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises from about 3,500 feet to a high point of 5,823 feet, with a total elevation gain of 271 feet. It is a hard route, and the climb is spread across the full length of the loop. The trail is open from May 1 to October 31. Bikes and horses are both allowed, and the surface is natural. Sylvan Lake Campground is about 2 miles away, and Willow Creek Campground is about 3 miles off. Spring Creek and Moose Peak are both within 3 miles for more hiking.
