Basin is an easy hike of about 2.2 miles in the Scapegoat Wilderness, part of the Seeley Lake Ranger District of Lolo National Forest in western Montana. The trail is an out-and-back, rising from a low point of about 7,340 feet to a high of about 7,750 feet, with a total climb of about 194 feet. The trail is a natural-surface route, and it is open year-round. Horses are allowed, and bikes are not. The Forest Service manages the land. The trail is a short outing into the wilderness, and it pairs easily with other outings in the area. Evans Peak lies about 2.2 miles away, and Hobnail Tom is about 2.3 miles off. The Cave Creek mountain biking route is about 2.5 miles away, and paddlers can reach the North Fork Blackfoot River, about 3.4 miles from the trail.
