Madison River Campground is a Forest Service campground in the Madison Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, in southwestern Montana. It sits about 34 miles south of Ennis and roughly 45 miles west of Yellowstone National Park, with the Madison River running just across the road from the sites. The campground has ten sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets and drinking water taps are placed along the one-way road near each site. Campsite 8 has a two-week booking window, and the rest are first come, first served. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Hebgen Dam weather station show July highs around 79°F with lows near 45°F, and September highs around 68°F with the fewest wet days of the year. Riverview Campground is about a quarter mile away and West Fork Madison Campground is under a mile off. Papoose Creek Trail is about 1.3 miles away, and Windy Point Boat Launch is about 7 miles away.
