Grasshopper Campground sits just off the Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway in southwest Montana, within the Dillon Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, the largest national forest in the state. It's an easy drive to full-service towns: Dillon lies about 42 miles southeast and Butte about 69 miles northeast. Wise River, a small rural community 32 miles north, has a post office, a small convenience store and gas. The campground has vault toilets, and a fee is charged. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. At the nearby Jackson, MT weather station, typical July averages run to highs around 77°F and lows near 42°F, while nights in June and September typically drop into the 30s. The Blue Creek trail starts just 0.4 miles away, and the Old Hot Srpings Trail is about 1.4 miles off. Clark Creek is roughly 2.5 miles away. Mono Creek Campground, about 6 miles away, offers another place to camp.
