It is a loop that starts and ends at roughly 960 feet, with a high point of about 1,070 feet and a total elevation gain of about 210 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 2.2 miles, with a grade of about 11 percent. Winter is the natural season for this route. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Boyne Falls show January highs around 28°F with lows near 14°F, and February is similar at about 31°F. That station sits roughly 345 feet lower than the route's high point, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler.
