West Perimeter Road is an easy cross-country ski route in western Massachusetts, about a mile from the town of Farley. It's an out-and-back with a total length of about 1.9 miles and a total elevation gain of 371 feet, which makes it a short, low-effort outing for skiers looking to get on the snow without a long commitment. The route starts and ends near the same point, with the low point at about 980 feet and the high at about 1089 feet. The steepest stretch comes early on, around 0.18 miles from the start, with a grade of about 15 percent, so the climb is most pronounced near the beginning of the run. Winter is the natural season for this route. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Orange, about 8.6 miles away, put January highs around 33°F with lows near 14°F. That station sits roughly 534 feet lower than the route, so temperatures on the road run somewhat cooler. Other options sit close by. Hill N Dale is just 0.2 miles away, and Sidewinder is about half a mile off. Farley Ledge Loop offers a hike within a short drive, and Rose Ledge, a climbing area, is about a mile away.
