Jug End is a cross-country ski route in western Massachusetts, about half a mile from Northfield Farms. It is a short, moderate out-and-back that gains about 200 feet of elevation over a little more than a mile, with the high point at about 590 feet. The climb starts at roughly 420 feet and reaches its steepest stretch, a 17% grade, within the first tenth of a mile. The route is symmetrical, with the same amount of gain and loss on the way up and back. Winter is the natural season for this trail. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Orange run from highs around 33°F in January to about 37°F in February, with lows in the teens. By contrast, July highs average about 84°F. Several other ski routes sit right next to Jug End, including Lower Jug End, Hemlock Hill and 10th Mountain Division, each about a tenth of a mile away. Rose Ledge, a climbing area, is about 0.3 miles off.
