Lower Trail is a 0.5-mile hike in Maryland, about 1.5 miles from the town of Foxville. It's a short outing, with a moderate climb of 92 feet one way and a total loss of 225 feet over the route. The trail is a point-to-point walk, and the steepest section comes at about 0.07 miles, with a 11% grade. The most comfortable stretch for a visit is late spring and early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Catoctin Mtn Park show May highs around 73°F and September highs around 75°F, with July peaking near 84°F. Bikes are not allowed on this trail. Several other routes and climbing areas sit within a short distance, including Campground Trail and Hog Rock Loop Trail, both about 0.2 miles away, and the Cliff Trail Boulders. Adirondack Shelters, about 1.2 miles off, is the closest campground.
