Scopan Mountain

Scopan Mountain is a summit in northern Maine, about 5.4 miles from the town of Mapleton. Several short trails sit close by, so the peak works well as the centerpiece of a day spent on the local trail network. Summer into early fall is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Presque Isle show July highs around 79°F and September highs near 69°F. That station sits roughly 860 feet below the mountain, so temperatures up high run cooler. Winter is a different picture: January highs there average about 22°F, with snow falling on several days each month from December through March. The Kidder Loop Trail starts less than a mile away. The Scopan Spur Trail and Scopan Loop Trail are both within about a mile and a half. For something farther afield, the Haystack Mountain Trail lies about 4.3 miles off, and the North Branch Presque Isle Stream offers canoeing about 4.7 miles away.
