Snail Trail is a short, easy mountain biking loop in the Carrabassett Valley, managed by State Park and Recreation, about a third of a mile long. It's a green circle trail, and the loop format makes it simple to ride multiple times in one visit. The mixed surface has smooth sections along with light technical features, giving riders a chance to build confidence while riding through Maine's forested landscape. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Long Falls Dam show July highs around 77°F with lows near 55°F, and September cools to highs around 68°F. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. Several other mountain biking routes lie within a short distance, including the Rt 27 Connector about 0.1 mile away, Moose Dip and First Tracks at about 0.2 mile, and Moose Pond Loop at about 0.2 miles. Climbers can plan a day that starts with a short ride and ends with a climb to a summit.
