Green Trail is an easy, short hike in southern Illinois, set on Cap Sauer's Holding, a parcel of Regional Agency Land. The route runs about 2 miles and gains roughly 120 feet in elevation, making it a gentle outing for hikers, riders and riders on horseback, as the trail is open to both bikes and horses. The trail is a point-to-point route rather than a loop. Its low point sits at about 665 feet and its high at about 747 feet, with the steepest stretch at nearly 18% grade occurring just under a mile into the trail. For timing, late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 73°F and September highs around 80°F, while July highs reach about 90°F and January highs hover near freezing. The trail network around here is close-knit. Blue Trail lies about 0.8 miles away and Tan Trail about 1.1 miles away. Black Unpaved Trail is roughly 1.6 miles out, and Canyon Creek Falls Walls, a climbing area, is about 5 miles off.
