Chambers is an easy, short hike in the Hidden Springs Ranger District of Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, managed by the Forest Service. It covers about 1.7 miles out and back, with a low of 636 feet and a high of 710 feet. The trail is on natural ground, and the Forest Service allows horses. Bikes are not permitted. The route is gentle, with a total elevation gain of about 50 feet. The steepest stretch comes early, at around 0.29 miles, with a 7% grade. The trail starts at about 696 feet and reaches its peak at about 710 feet, so the climb is barely worth noting. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Rosiclare put October highs around 69°F with lows near 43°F, and May highs around 75°F. That station sits about 310 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on Chambers run a little cooler.
