About Mesa Falls Scenic Byway

Mesa Falls Scenic Byway is a 28.2-mile drive in eastern Idaho that holds two designations: it is a National Forest Scenic Byway and also an Idaho State Scenic Byway. The Forest Service manages the land it crosses, and the route passes through the communities of Ashton and Warm River, so either town works as a starting point. Summer is the most comfortable time to make the drive. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Ashton show July and August highs around 83°F with only about four wet days a month, while September cools to highs in the low 70s. Several trails and campgrounds sit right along the road, which makes the byway easy to combine with a short walk or an overnight stay. Warm River and Grandview Campground are both within about a tenth of a mile of the route, as are the North Gate Path and the Last Chance Trail. The Mesa Nature Trail lies about a third of a mile away.
