The Sawtooth Range is a climbing area in Idaho's Sawtooth Wilderness, within the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and Sawtooth National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the area sits inside designated wilderness, which sets it apart as a backcountry destination rather than a developed recreation site. The climbing here is alpine in style, with 15 routes spread across the range. The grades run from 5.4 to 5.11a, with the Regular Route (aka Central Gully) at 5.6 and Bum Rush at 5.11a among the most notable. One route is listed as ice, so winter climbers can find a different challenge in the same area. Several other destinations lie close by. The Saddleback Lakes West Trail and Saddleback Lakes East Trail are both within about 2 miles, and The Elephant's Perch and Baron Spire (aka Old Smoothie) are climbing areas a little farther out. Redfish Inlet Campground is about 2.6 miles away for anyone planning an overnight stay.
