Kestrel #39 is a short, moderate mountain biking ride of about 1.2 miles out and back on city land within Hulls Gulch Reserve in Idaho, about half a mile from the trailhead. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at roughly 0.5 miles in and a total of about 240 feet of gain. The high point sits at about 3,234 feet, and the route returns to nearly the same starting elevation. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Boise show May highs around 72°F and September highs near 80°F, while July and August average in the low 90s. The trail sits close to other mountain biking routes. #39 Connector is about 0.1 mile away, and #29 Lower Hulls Gulch is about 0.2 mile away. Climbers can head to Rocky Canyon, about 2.4 miles off, and anglers to the Boise River, roughly 5.4 miles away.
