Summit Trail is a hard hike of about 34 miles in the Middle Fork Ranger District of Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back, and the climb totals about 1,418 feet, taking you from a low of roughly 7,972 feet to a high of about 9,016 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses, but bikes are not. That makes it a practical choice for riders on horseback, though the distance and the elevation gain make it a serious commitment for anyone. Pistol Creek lies just 0.2 miles away, and South Fork Sand Creek, Honeymoon and Mosquito Creek are all within about 3.5 miles.
