Huntley Canyon is a 7.3-mile out-and-back hike in Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Forest Service's Dubois Ranger District. The trail rises from about 6,988 feet to a high point of 7,007 feet, with a total elevation gain of 2,279 feet over the course of the trip. The climb is rated hard, and the steepest stretch comes early, around 0.37 miles from the start, where the grade reaches about 14%. The trail is natural-surface and open to both horses and bikes. It is not an accessible route. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 83°F in July, with lows near 51°F. That station sits about 1,267 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the canyon's ridge run cooler. The hike takes about 3.5 hours, and the trail is open year-round. Stoddard Creek Campground is about 1.5 miles away, and the Stoddard Creek and Stoddard Cr Loop hikes are within about a mile and a half. Forest Trail 179 is about 1.6 miles off.
