Dead Cat is an easy out-and-back hike in Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, within the Challis-Yankee Fork Ranger District. The trail is about 1.6 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 508 feet, and it rises from a low point of about 7,536 feet to a high of about 8,099 feet. The route is open year-round, and the Forest Service manages the land. The trail is natural-surface, and it allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. For a change of pace, the Pahsimeroi River and Doublespring Creek offer canoeing about 5 miles away. Meadow Creek and Carlson Lake are hikes roughly 8 miles off.
