Archer Point is a hard hike in Idaho's Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, on the West Fork Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest. The route is an out-and-back of about 5.7 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 2,242 feet, taking you from a low point of 2,825 feet to a high of 5,062 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced, and the Forest Service manages the land. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Red River, which sits about 700 feet lower than the high point, show July and August highs around 80°F with lows near 40°F. Winter is cold, with January highs around 35°F and lows near 15°F. Elevator Mountain lies just 0.3 miles away, and Running Creek and North Star Creek are each about 1.1 miles off. For an overnight base, Paradise Campground is about 6.2 miles away.
