The Hal Borland Memorial Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 0.6 miles from the town of Mitcheltown. The route is roughly 1.3 miles long, with a one-way climb of about 205 feet from a starting elevation of around 1,080 feet to a high point near 1,110 feet. The trail also has a total descent of about 378 feet, so it's a gentle up-and-down walk rather than a steady climb. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Falls Village show May highs around 72°F and September highs around 75°F, with July the warmest month at about 85°F. That station sits about 560 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. Bikes are not allowed on this trail. Several other hikes lie within a few miles, including the Benton Hill Route 343, the D'alton Inner Loop Trail and the Sharon Mountain Preserve Loop Trail. Climbers can find the Western Highlands about 5.4 miles away.
