Boulder Crest Outer Loop is an easy, short loop in Connecticut's Vernon area, about 1.6 miles from town. The trail is 0.92 miles long and rises about 48 feet from its starting point of roughly 598 feet to a high of 622 feet. The climb is gentle, with the steepest stretch at about 0.63 miles, where the grade reaches 14%. Because the loop is so short, it works well as a quick addition to a visit to the surrounding trail network. Summer and early fall are the mildest times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Storrs weather station run from highs around 76°F in June to about 73°F in September. That station sits at a similar elevation, so its figures should be a fair guide to conditions on the trail. The Boulder Crest Inner Loop lies just 0.1 mile away, and the Main Road Trail and Railroad Brook Trail are within a mile. For time on the water, the Hockanum River is about 2.9 miles off.
