Photo: jjbers, CC BY 2.0 (via Flickr)Yellow Trail is a 0.76-mile loop hike in Connecticut, about 1.2 miles from the town of Lydallville. It is a short, easy route with a high point of 474 feet and a low of 445 feet, so the elevation gain is only about 13 feet. The steepest stretch comes at roughly 0.48 miles into the loop, where the grade reaches about 10 percent. Bikes are allowed on the trail, and dogs must be leashed. Because the climb is so gentle, the hike works well as a quick outing on its own or as part of a longer visit to the surrounding network of trails. Late spring and early fall tend to be the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Storrs weather station show May highs around 68°F and September highs around 73°F. The station sits about 190 feet higher than the trail, so temperatures on the trail may run slightly warmer. The Risley Pond Loop Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Orange Trail and Yellow-Blue Trail are within half a mile. For an overnight stay, John and Frederica Johnson Memorial Camp is about 2.6 miles off.
