Vega State Park
About
Vega State Park is a Colorado Parks & Wildlife park in western Colorado, about 7.6 miles from the town of Collbran. It works well as a base for camping, short hikes and paddling in the surrounding area. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to visit. At a nearby weather station, typical averages run to highs near 79°F with lows around 53°F in June, and highs near 74°F with lows around 49°F in September. That station sits roughly 900 feet lower than the park, so expect it to be somewhat cooler at the park itself. Winter is cold, with typical January highs in the mid-30s and several snowy days each month from December through February. Several spots are within a mile or so of the park. Vega Trail is about 0.9 mile away, and Early Settlers Campground and Aspen Nature Trail are each about 1.2 miles away. For time on the water, Plateau Creek is a canoeing option roughly 3 miles off.
