The Carbondale Area is a climbing area in Colorado's Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, within the Sopris Ranger District of White River National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Crested Butte show July highs around 76°F with lows near 40°F, and temperatures at this higher elevation run cooler than those figures. Avalanche Creek, a canoeing spot, lies about a mile away. East Creek and the Butter Boulders climbing area are both about 3 miles off, and Redstone Family Campground is about 3.5 miles away.
