Stinsby is a hard hike in Colorado's Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, within the Yampa Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back of about 9.7 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 837 feet, taking you from a low point of 8,487 feet to a high of 9,412 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced, with horses and bikes allowed. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Yampa weather station, which sits about 1,555 feet lower, show July highs around 79°F and lows near 46°F. Winter is cold, with January highs around 32°F and lows near 7°F. The trail is open year-round. Elk Draw is about a mile away, and Indian Run is about 1.7 miles off. Indian Run Campground is about 5 miles away, and the South Fork Williams Fork offers canoeing about 3.9 miles from the trail.
