Peaks Trail is a hard out-and-back hike in Colorado's White River National Forest, within the Dillon Ranger District. The route spans about 15 miles, climbing roughly 1,100 feet from a low point of 9,086 feet to a high of 10,195 feet. The trailhead is at Peaks Trailhead, and the Forest Service manages the land. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July highs reach about 75°F with lows near 38°F at a nearby weather station in Dillon, and the trail sits a little higher than that station, so expect slightly cooler temperatures on the summit. Winters there are severe, with January highs around 31°F and lows near 1°F. Horses are allowed on the trail. The route is open year-round, and Peak One Campground and Pine Cove Campground are both within about 2 miles for an overnight stay. Climbers will find Mount Royal near Frisco about 0.7 miles away.
