Long Point is a 6.2-mile out-and-back hike in the Grand Valley Ranger District of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests in Colorado, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is rated hard, and the route rises about 24 feet from the low point at 7,642 feet to the high point at 7,991 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses, but bikes are not permitted. That makes it a good fit for riders on horseback, and the climb is short enough to fit into a longer day on foot or on horseback. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Norwood weather station show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 75°F, with July and August the warmest and wettest months. North Kelso is about 2.8 miles away, and Kelso Mesa and Short Point Bench are both within about 4.4 miles. For an overnight stay, Oak Cabin is roughly 9.7 miles off.
