Ice Lake is a hard hike in Colorado's San Juan National Forest, within the Columbine Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back of about 7.5 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 2,462 feet, taking you from a low point of about 9,836 feet to a high of about 12,307 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open from June 1 to September 30. The route is natural-surfaced and allows both horses and bikes. The trailhead is named Ice Lake TH, and the trip is best planned for summer and early fall, when the open season runs from June through September. Golden Horn and Ulysses S Grant Peak are both about 0.6 miles away, and the Ice Lakes Basin climbing area is about 1.1 miles off. Primitive Camping sits about 0.8 miles from the trail.
