Gore Creek is a hard hike in Colorado's Eagles Nest Wilderness, part of the Dillon Ranger District of the White River National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back route of about 14.8 miles, with a total elevation gain of about 6,500 feet. The high point is 11,740 feet, and the low point is 8,660 feet. The trail is on natural surface, and horses are allowed, but bikes are not. The steepest stretch comes early, at about 0.86 miles from the start, where the grade reaches 35 percent. The trailhead is at Gore Creek Trailhead, and the route is open year-round. Plan for about eight hours on the trail. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Climax weather station, at a similar elevation, show July highs around 67°F and lows near 40°F, with no snow days. Winter is cold and snowy, with highs in the upper 20s and about 15 snow days a month from December through February. Gore Lake is about 1.5 miles away, and the Gore Range Trail for mountain biking is about half a mile off. Climbers can head to Teeter Top, about 4.6 miles away, and Gore Creek Campground is about 5.2 miles away.
