Thrutcher Dome is a climbing area in the Joshua Tree Wilderness, inside Joshua Tree National Park in California, managed by the National Park Service. It sits among several named climbing spots, with Disneyland Dome and Butler Corridor each about 0.1 mile away. The area has eight routes, six of which are trad and two sport, with YDS grades ranging from 5.7 to 5.11b. Among them are "Thrutcher" (5.7, first climbed by Dave Evans and Mike Lechlinski in 1978) and "Life Without Principle" (5.11b), which is the hardest of the listed routes. "Feeding Frenzy" and "Ground Ron" are both 5.10s. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Yucca Valley show April highs around 73°F and October highs around 80°F, while July and August average about 96°F. That station sits roughly 1,200 feet below the dome, so temperatures up high run cooler. A fee is charged to climb here.
