Round Rock is a climbing area in California, about 1.6 miles from the town of Carlton Hills. It sits right next to several other climbing spots, including Dog Pile, Suzie's Boulder, Dog Pile Area and Butt Plug, all within about a tenth of a mile. That makes it a compact, close-knit cluster of crags and boulders, easy to pair with other climbs or a short walk on the same outing. Spring and fall bring the most comfortable weather. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in El Cajon show April highs around 75°F with lows near 51°F, and November highs around 75°F with lows near 47°F. Midsummer runs hotter, with August highs near 89°F. The Spring Canyon Trail and North Fortuna Perimeter Trail are both about half a mile away, and Kwaay Paay Peak Trail is roughly 1.3 miles off. The San Diego River, a canoeing route, is about 8 miles away.
