The Building Block is a climbing area in the Mountaintop Ranger District of San Bernardino National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. It sits within the forest's ranger district, about 5 miles from Big Bear Lake. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Big Bear Lake weather station show July highs around 80°F with lows near 50°F, and the area runs a few hundred feet lower than the station, so temperatures at the climbing area may run slightly cooler. Two other climbing areas, Too Small To Fall Boulder and Free Beer Corridor, are each about 0.1 mile away. Tanglewood Group Camp is about a mile off, and Van Dusen Canyon Spur is about 1.5 miles away.
