Tamarack is a 5.6-mile out-and-back hike in the Bridgeport Ranger District of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in California. The trail rises from about 7,080 feet to roughly 9,089 feet, a climb of 2,015 feet. It is a moderate route on natural surface, and the Tamarack Trailhead serves as the trailhead, with the trip open year round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July highs reach about 71°F with lows near 38°F, based on averages from a nearby weather station at a similar elevation. Winters are cold, with typical January highs around 41°F. Lower Twin Lake Campground sits just 0.1 mile from the trailhead, and Crags Group Campground is about 0.3 mile away. The Horse-Cattle Creek hike lies about 1.6 miles off, and the Tamarack Trail is about 1.8 miles away.
