Nelson Cabin is a 10-mile out-and-back hike in the Golden Trout Wilderness, part of the Western Divide Ranger District of Sequoia National Forest in California. The trail rises from about 6,050 feet to about 6,557 feet, a climb of 839 feet, and is rated hard. The Forest Service manages the land. The route is natural-surface and allows horses, but not bikes. It is open year-round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the Lodgepole weather station, about 29 miles away, show July and August highs around 76°F with lows in the mid-40s and only a couple of wet days a month. Winter brings highs in the upper 30s and frequent snow days. Burnt Corral Meadow and Clicks Creek Cutoff are both within about a mile and a half. The Little Kern River offers paddling about 1.5 miles away, and Quaking Aspen campground is about 4.7 miles off.
