Kanawyer is a hard out-and-back hike in the Hume Lake Ranger District of Sequoia National Forest in California. The route runs about 21 miles, starting from a low point of roughly 4,472 feet and climbing to a high of about 7,563 feet. It is managed by the Forest Service and is open year-round. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses. Bikes are not permitted. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the Grant Grove weather station, about 7.5 miles away, show July and August highs near 79°F with lows around 52°F and only a day or two of rain each month. Winter averages run from the mid-20s to the mid-40s. Evans Grove Loop lies less than a mile away, and Little Boulder Grove is about 1.3 miles off. Buck Rock, a climbing area, is about 2.6 miles away, and Landslide Campground is about 2.8 miles away.
