Jacobson is a hard hike in the Western Divide Ranger District of Sequoia National Forest, about 3.3 miles from the town of Mountain Home, California. The trail is an out-and-back of about 11 miles, with a total elevation gain of about 4,142 feet, taking you from a low point of about 4,216 feet to a high of about 8,356 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the Lodgepole weather station, about 28 miles away, show July and August highs around 76°F with lows in the mid-40s and only about two wet days a month. Winter brings highs in the upper 30s and frequent snow days, and temperatures on this route run cooler than at the station. The trail is on natural surface and allows both horses and bikes. Wishon Campground and Wishon Cabin sit about a mile away, and Coburn Creek Trail and Griswold are each about 2.5 miles off.
